I'nele John Woodley, who used to keep a sailor boarding house at tlie corner of Water and Taylor streets, where the McCurdy block now stands, was in town yesterday. Mr. Woodley’ has a farm in Cliitnacum, and doesn’t come to town very often. He now wants a guide look when he re-visits the old stamping ground, on account oi the wonderful changes that have tak 211 place here.When he was slier iff of the county in•early days, and the old Hastings log shanty, where the James-Ilastings new brick block now stands was used fur a jail, the prisoners ued to come out on the roof and wait imtientiy for hi'*.; to ‘gin them up.” The yard was not enclosed, and there were 110 locks on the doors—but the potency of .John Woodley’s whiskey kept the prisoners from trying to escape.
