A farewell picnic was held Sunday evening in honor of the two Truman American Field Service students, Peter Brook and Bruno Gastal. The covered dish affair was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cook, 3609 S. Vernon Drive. Miss Pat Heckmann, Tru man High School AFL Chair man for the past year, pre sented the program which in cluded skits of some of the events in Peter and Brune’s life in the United States. Pe ter, who comes from New Zealand, has spent the past year with the Dr. S. F. Cock erell family and Brune, from France, has lived with the Thomas Haggard family. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. Wynne Jones and son, Sheldon. They will be the par ents and brother of next year’s Truman AFS student arriving the first part of August from Turkey. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Roberts, who will be the par ents of a daughter from Japan, were also guests. Both the students will be attending Truman High School. Miss Bo Sjovall from Fin land, a former Chrisman AFS student who graduated in 1963, was also a special guest. Miss Sjovall is spending the summer with the Leslie Hun ter family, her former Amer ican “family” and is employed at the Independence Sani tarium. She is working to ward her medical degree. Mrs. Vance Link will take office July 1 as the Truman AFS Chapter’s president. Mrs. Tom Haggard will be chair man in charge of speeches. Organizations interested in booking the AFS_ students from Truman High School for programs next year should contact Mrs. Haggard. Out-of-town guests for the wedding of Miss Ann Chris tine Lauber and Benny J. Cain June 8 included Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Baker of College Station, Tex., and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Neuroth of Oregon, Mo. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter P. Lauber, 9899 E. Linwood, and the bridegroom the son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cain Jr., 4252 N. Cypress. A number of out-of-town guests attended the wedding of Miss Suzanne LeBarron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack T. LeBarron, and Dale M. Clark, son of Mrs. Mildred M. Clark and the late Rus sell M. Clark, all of Buckner. They were the bride’s grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. LeBarron of Portland, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. W. D. LeBar ron, Milwaukie, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Noltens meyer and Miss Gail Noltens meyer Salem, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. Noltensmeyer, Joplin, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. James B. Andrews, Iowa City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Smith, Owenboro, Ky.; Dr. and Mrs. Roy Nakamoto, Houston, Tex., and Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Miller Sr. of Slater, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Breshears and daughter Susan, 10712 E. 33rd Ter., spent the weekend in Clinton, Mo. Susan was a bridesmaid in the wedding party of Miss Mary Lynn Mastin and James Howard Marolf. The wedding was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Clinton Methodist Church. Miss Mastin and Miss Bre shears were roommates at Wil liam Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., and are sorority sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha. Miss Carolyn Jones was guest of honor at a bridal shower in the home of Miss Susan Breshears, 10712 E. 33rd Ter. Twenty-one guests attended the miscellaneous shower. Co-hostesses were Miss Carolyn Hilton and Mrs. Barney Arbuckle. The pale pink and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations and re freshments. The hostess, maid of honor for the wedding, pre sented Miss Jones with a pink chrysanthemum corsage. A white net pillow in the shape of a heart edged with lace was given to the bride and filled with bows from the gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Wesner, 650 E. Red Road, at tended the 78th Annual Con gress of the Sons of the Amer ican Revolution held in Wil liamsburg, Va., June 1619. Mr. Wesner was one of 330 dele gates from all parts of the United States. Among the speakers were Fulton Lewis III and Gover nor Winthrop Rockefeller of Arkansas. Mr. Wesner worked for the successful election of Walter Gage Sterling of the Texas society. Following the meeting in Williamsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Wesner went to Washington, D.C., and visited with Con gressman and Mrs. William J. Randall. Mr. Wesner also saw his friend General Harold K. Johnson, chief of staff at the Pentagon. General Johnson will retire on July 2. While in Williamsburg, Mrs. Wesner met several of her relatives including Mrs. Fred rick Ball, one of the owners of the Peyton Randolph house, which is not yet open to the public. Mrs. Ethel T. Holland, who spent the winter at Phoenix, Ariz., with her son, Harry Holland and family, has re turned for the summer months with her daughter, Mrs. Philip C. Brooks and Dr. Brooks, 1332 W. Truman Road.
