Grimshaw Chamber of Com merce met last Wednesday at the parish hall with 20 members pre sent. Bert Johnson was in the chair. It was decided at the meeting to begin the new fall session with a dinner meeting. Chamber was notified of in crease of the road limit between Peace River and Edmonton. The Grimshaw Chamber has been the champion of the truck drivers regarding this road for some time and at last has won the battle. Reports from the business pro motional committee were read and dealt with, and news regard ing this will be out in the autumn. Ladies’ Arena Association met last Wednesday afternoon, Presi dent Emily Yates in the chair. There was a lively discussion re garding the menu for the Grim shaw Arena Association car ban quet to be held Saturday, June 27 at 6 - 9 p.m. in the Grimshaw Arena. The purchasing of a candy floss machine was discussed, to replace the one that was destroy ed in the fire last fall. It was also decided to have a booth at the Bear Lake sports ground. Lunch was served by Mrs. Doris Tacka berry and Mrs. Emily Yates. The association will disband for the summer months of July and Aug ust. Mr. and Mrs. William Smith of Grimshaw received the news that their daughter Mrs. H. Shields of Grande Prairie has a new baby boy, born Friday June 19. Mr. and Mrs. F. Grant were business vistors to Edmonton last week. Mr. and Mrs. T. Butler motored to Edmonton Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. J. King returned from Edmonton last Tuesday. Mr. John Brauer was admitted to the Berwyn Hospital last week. Mr. Heinz Bauer flew to Ger many last week to visit his par ents. The Dolvoec Brothers have commenced the construction of their new dairy and work is pro gressing favorably. Work commenced last week on Mackies trailer court, Mrs. M. Peppin of Edmonton who was visiting her father last week Mr. E. L. Logan returned home Friday. . The annual Parish picnic of St. Bartholomew's Anglican church was held at Camp Artaban on Sunday. A service was conducted by Bishop R. J. Pierce, followed by games, races and a_ peanut scramble. Everyone enjoyed a hearty lunch, with ice cream, soft drinks etc., and all are look ing forward to next years picnic. Mrs. R. Funnel and_ children left on Tuesday via train for Ed monton, where they will board a plane for Waterways, Mrs. Fun nel is visiting her mother Mrs. K. G. Cochrane. Mrs. Funnel's brother and her six” sisters of Uranium City Sask., will be visit ing for the family reunion. On Sunday the “gone fishing” signs were out for Frank Steffen, the Stan Melroys, Dale Adams, Max Frith’s, R. Woogan, and S. McQuarries. A parish meeting of the Holy Family Church of Grimshaw held a brief meeting on Sunday at the church to discuss tenders for a booth at Bear Lake. Special meeting of the town council was called June 4, at the Grimshaw Town Hall to discuss the bylaw and to authorize a master agreement with the minis ter of public welfare and the contracting municipalities for the establishment of a home of the the aged to be constructed at Berwyn. It was agreed by the council that it be more advantageous for the town of Grimshaw to pass the bylaw, especially as the town can withdraw after one year. Special consideration was given to the rights of the elderly Grimshaw residents at the Ber wyn Home. The telephones were out of commission at Grimshaw again on Monday, according to the Chamber of Commerce secretary, a plug was up and a lid loosened, letting in the water, and cutting off the phones. Grimshaw Fire Brigade was at Father last Wednesday and came home as the winners of a shield and a trophy for the provincial hose-laying contest. The winning team consisted of Russ Paul, Fire Chief, Steve Himer, Jim Himer and Bill Markovitch. Mr. Paul left on Tuesday to attend the pro vincial fire chiefs’ school at Cal gary. Mr. and Mrs. James Glen are the parents of a baby boy born at the Berwyn hospital on Fri day, June 12, John Malcolm, Con gratulations. The Junior W.A. girls were en tertained at the home of Mrs. H. Lloyd at a party on Tuesday af ternoon. Mrs. Lloyd is the leader of the junior girls. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Giesser and family returned last Tuesday from New Zealand, where they had been making their home, for the past two years, Mr. and Mrs. Don Knox and family from Estevan, Saskatche wan are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Frith. Mr. Ted Mawer is back in Grimshaw with his family, Mr Mawer was in Estevan, Sask., Mr. E. Lagan had as his guest his son Don, and his daughter.
