Would Make Road Con crete From Minneapolis To New Orleans. Less than 200 miles of highway No. 63 between Minneapolis and New Orleans, La., the majority of which is between Ottumwa and Waterloo, is unpaved, it was re ported at a meeting of the Cham ber of Commerce board of direc tors in Hotel Ottumwa this noon. Having secured the co-operation of Waterloo and towns between, the local chamber was much en couraged by the developments of the past week concerning the pro posed direct route north of here. Two Visit Ames: A committee headed by Sen. Roy E. Stevens and T. J. Madden pre sented the proposal to the state highway commission at Ames last week and the plan is now under consideration, Senator Stevens re ported today. Indication that the Eddyville road will be taken under state su pervision and surfaced this year was shown during the meeting. A motion that the chairman of the good roads committee of the cham ber write to the highway commis sion and Gov. Clyde L. Herring in an effort to hasten the graveling of the Lake Wapello road was car ried. Horace A. Brown, superintend ent of the Ottumwa Water Works, read a letter received today in which the Greater Des Moines as sociation pledged its support to the $25,000,000 project which would make the Des Moines river navigable from Keokuk to the capital city. A mee of all cities and towns between these points hasten called for 6 p. m. Friday, June 28, at Hotel Ottum wa. Committee Named. The Ottumwa committee on the river project consists of Horace Brown, chairman, Max von Schrader, Walter McElroy, Roy Stevens, T. J. Madden, Roscoe Taylor and John Huston. Walter McElroy, Leo Bremhorst and Warren Ferguson were ap pointed as a committee to send an expression of sympathy to the Ernest H. Fabritz family. The nominating committee was in structed to make a recommenda tion at the next meeting for a new director to fill the vacancy left by Mr. Fabritz. Guests at today's meeting were C. M. Maxwell, Arthur Carlson, E. A. Wimmer and J. E. Beighle.
