Probably no corner In Sac City has changed more materially in the past few years than the corner of Eleventh and Audubonstreets where the Salasek apartments and the home of M. F. Salasek are now located. The upper picture, taken just as building operations had been started, shows the hole in the ground at that time. The concrete retaining wall, running along the south side of Audubon street, is IW2 feet high. From the bottom of the hole it was necessary to build foundation and build up the walls. After the apartment and the residence property had been completed, Mr. Salasek had 4,000 loads of dirt hauled in. The lower picture shows the result. Mr. an£Mrs. Salasek are standing in front of their home.Unfortunately the buildings are located at a low spot in town. All of the water from as far east as the* Methodist church, north from the extreme north end of 12th street and west from the stock yards flows down to a point directly in front of the apartmenthouse.• .Twelve years ago the ground and foundations around the building’ were badly washed by. a hard rain, doing damage of more than $1,000. A similar experience, on a smaller scale, resulted from the hard rain of last Saturday. Flower beds in front of the building and ground around the west side of the building w^ere washed into the ravine below.
