Levina Matteson, he ot “essence of ant sting” fame, achieved ad ditional notoriety this week by unlawfully and wilfully writing and addressing a certain letter to the “Judge of the Supreme Coart, meaning thereby the Hon. N. Walter Dixon, for the purpose and with the intent to influence him in the trial of a certain cause entitled the People of the State of Colo rado vs. Lulu Adams, and did then and there place himself in contempt of the aforesaid honorable court. The letter in words and figures reads as follows:La Junta, Colo., June 18, 1904.Judge of Supreme Coart: 1must have taken a good deal ol privalege in writing to you 011 the following subject which I am in no way interested, knot nowing all the case of murder which is to fit-tried before you. But I atn ac quainted with the King boys * * *I would rather take that woman's word than the evidence of the King outfit, and if she is convict ed, and you pass sentence, and 1 am ever governor of Colorado she will get her freedom the day that I receive power.L. C. M ATT F. SON.An information was filed charging Levina with contempt of court, and the capias issued was served by Sheriff Barr last Wednesda) morning.
