Steamboats oh tub Cedar.—F. Smith Co., of Cedar Rapids, are engaged in constructing at that place a steamboat to ply between that piaco and Waterloo, Block Hawk county. Its dimensionsaro to be, length of beam, 39 feet; depth of hold, 2 1-2 feet; boiler, ,80 inches diameter, 15 feet in length, containing 49 three inch dues—estimated capacity, 55 borso power, to bo driven by two cngiues, nine inch bore, and thrao inch stroke. Stern wheel, 12 feet init * •diameter, IB feet bucket. It is calculated that a boat of Iho abovo dimensions and power will draw seven inches light, with steam up—20 tons on board will draw 12 inches—75 tons, about two feet The gentlemen who have this project in charge aro men who have had experience in all branches of steamboaling—particularly in building; and we havo great confidence in their judgment in regard to the feasibility of the plan. It is what is needed—every merchant in the counties abovo us will pay tribute to it in the way of freight. The want of such a mode of conveyance has been most severely felt this Kcnsou with the impassible stalo of tho roads, Tho public at largo wish the company all success in their enterprise, The boat will be ready for her first trip on the first of August. Another boat has been constructed at Brownville, Ohio, for tho lower river trade, und wo understand it will bp at Cedar ltapids by tho 4lh of next month. These are projects which will greatly benefit this portion of the Oedar Valley, and give, wo fiope, an impetus to trade. Wo notice that several of ouri • * fmerchants aro shipping wheat to tho Rapids in view of getting it to market in this way.
