*5Organ, Choir Performances To Open Chautauqua SeasonCHAUTAUQUA, - Organist George Baker and the Cleveland West Shore Chorale will lead off the 1976 Chautauquaconcert season Sunday, June 27.Baker’s 3:15 p.m. amphi-theater recital will include Bach’s “Alla Breve in D Major, BWV, 589,” Liszt's “Prelude and Fugue on the Name B.A.C.H.,” and Baker’s own “The Far-West Toccata, Op. 2.” The 25-year-old Dallas native won the 1974 Grand Prix- de Chartres (France), the. world's most prestigious organ competition. Baker has played recitals in cathedrals throughout Europe, including two engagements at Paris' Notre . Dame in one year.In addition to this “Far-West Toccata, Baker has writtensongs for the organ, piano and harpsicord and a mass which debuted in St. George's Anglican Church, Paris, in 1975.William Appling will conduct the Cleveland West Shore Chorale in a sacred song service in the amphitheater at 8 p.m. The chorale is a versatile singing group that performs both classical music and Appling’s arrangements of Negro spirituals.The West Shore Chorale appeared at the National convention of the National Catholic Educators Association. Mr. Appling has directed the West Shore Chorale since 1970 and is also music director of Western Reserve Academy.There is no gate fee at Chautauqua on Sundays.
