Jerry’ s U.S. Mart, with a convincing 9-3 win Monday night over Piker’s Service, moved into a half-game lead in the Zenas Smith League. From the beginning it looked bad for Piker’s as Bruce Duncan’s first inning three-run homer against Piker’s pitcher Larry Comer led the charge. While Comer in going six innings allowed 12 hits and four free passes, Rick McBride went the distance for Jerry’s allowing only three hits while striking out five and walking three. For Jerry’s Bruce Christian’s three singles and Craig Walkers double and two singles complemented Duncan’s first inning blast. Defensively Steve Taylor had eight unassisted putouts for Piker’s, in cluding two strikeouts when he took over the pitching chores for Comer in the seventh. Jerry’s is now 9-5, a half-game ahead of Hi-Boy, which stands 8-5 and Piker’s which dropped to 9-6. In other action: Liberty 8, Apollo Helicopter 3. Back to-back home runs in the fourth by Dick Bland and Brian Sitzman led Liberty’s 12 hit attack in the Sunday night games. Pat Richmond limited Apollo single tallies in the first, fourth and seventh in allowing only three hits. John Meyer suffered the loss for Apollo. Rob Cox collected a single, double and home run, to also star for the winners. Bob Crowson’s home run and Darrell Bryan’s double were the only extra base hits for Apollo. Liberty 7, Hi-Boy 4. Liberty made it two in a row and moved two games over the .500 mark at 8-6 Monday night with a 7-4 victory over Hi-Boy. Kevin Houston’s two singles and three runs batted in led Liberty’s win. Houston was also the winning hurler allowing six hits and 10 walks, but striking out 12 before being relieved in the seventh by Gary Roberts. Steve Copenhaver, who collected two of the six Hi-Bay hits, took the loss. Defensively Darrell Driskell had an outstanding game at third for Liberty.
