Gary Julg copped his second feature win of the season Sunday +, before a standing room only crowd at Weedsport Speedway. The 23-year old Julg recovered from a spectacular flip a week ago which left his car virtually demolished. He edged Pete Cordes of Sidney Center by about two car lengths to gain the win. Roy Holt of St. Catherine's, Ont. finished third while Bobby Cain of Weedsport and John Podolak of Auburn rounded out the top two. Luck was not with track leader Will Cagle as he finished in the same spot as the number of his car—24—as his new Pinto bodied machine cut a tire in the early going and was the first car out of the feature. Dennis Taney of Phelps copped the companion late model feature as he out distanced Mike Colsten of Binghamton and Jack Emerson of Syracuse. Aaron Smack and Walt Mitchell rounded out the top five. Taney had been knocking on the winner's door the past few weeks and finally put everything together to notch his first feature win. It was also the night for the first demolition derby of the season and 49 cars showed up for that. Charlie Patchson of Weedsport was declared the winner of the derby as his machine was the last running, although there was not much left of the car at the end. Next Sunday will have another double feature while fans get set for two big events July 4 — the USAC National Championship race at the State are in the af ternoon then a 100-lap holiday special for the modifieds at Weedsport at night, along with a gigantic aerial fireworks display.
