Firm Has Erected Several Buildings In Glenwood AreaBetts and Beer Construction Company of Adair was the low bidder on the general contract for the new Glenwood Community High School building at the letting held Tuesday afternoon at the high school building here.The low was §538,413 among the eight firms which submitted sealed bids on general construction.Kruck Plumbing and Heating Company of Boone was low with $235,489 among five bidders on the mechanical contractLow bidder on the electrical contract was Western Hills Electric Company of Omaha with .$69,-000. Ellison Van Pelt, formerly of Glenwood, is owner of the firm. There were four bidders on the electrical contract.School officials were well pleased with the low figure on the general contract, particularly, but said some negotiations would bo made on the mechanical contract, which they felt was a little i high.;5 j Other general contract bids r were as follows: Wlebe Con-o i struction Company, $585,987; Allied Engineering Company, $555,695; Sioux Construction Company, $552,324; United Builders, $570,697; Roth Associates, $648,800; Grundman Hicks Construction Company, $548,543; Butler Construction Company, $619,141.Those bidding on -the mechanical contract in addition to the successful bidder were Dale Lint Company, $247,900; Camblin Plumbing Heating, $245,471; Les Pulton Company, $245,724; Herb Charleston Company, $255,000.The bid amounts of the three unsuccessful electrical contract bidders were Brite-Way Electric Company, $74,942; ABC Electric, $77,150; Del Kimrey Company, $83,056.In Glenwood for the letting was Ken Wallerstedt of Des Moines, the architect. He was accompanied by Hugo Gehrles of Des Moines, who will be inspector on the project.Construction on the new high school building is expected to begin early in July. Target date for completion of the academic portions of the building is set for August, 1966, so classes may begin in the structure for the 196657 term.The Glenwood Community School District approved an $880,-000 bond issue for the building last December.The Betts and Beer firm, the successful bidder on the general contract, is well known in this area.The firm had the general contract on the new administration building at the state school, the educational building for Grace Methodist Church, the Nishna Valley School and the addition to the Chantry School at Malvern. The company now is working at the state school on the new dormitory.The school board will meet with contractors early in August to work out any of the finer details in connection with the erection of the structure.
