Series of Colorful Races Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with Coronado Yacht Club as the Host City’s New Ramp to Have First Work-out Approximately a hundred craft from various Southern Cali fornia ports will participate in one of the most colorful yachting events of the year—the Second Annual Invitational Small Boat Regatta—to be held here Saturday and Sunday. The Coronado Yacht club will be host to the skippers of various boats up to 21 feet in length , during this week-end with a series of three spec tacular races on Glorietta Bay, and a barbecue on Saturday afternoon. Nearly 30 handsome trophies will be awarded to the winners in the various classes Sunday afternoon at the Cor onado Yacht club, according to Com modore Henry G. Weston, of the host club. The event is sanctioned by the small boat division of the Southern Califor nia Yachting association. its activity offs the week end will tomorrow night when a num ber of the small boat skippers will ar rive from Long Beach, San Pedro, Cabrillo Beach, Newport, Alamitos Bay and other beach points, with their boats ‘on trailers. The city’s new concrete ramp will receive its first real work-out when the small craft are launched Friday night and Saturday morning. “This will be an interesting sight to watch and I hope that as many Coro natians as possible will come down to the Yacht club and watch these boats being launched from this 110-foot ramp,” Commodore’ Weston said. There will be a series of three races Saturday and Sunday for the follow ing classes: starboats, starletts, snipes, flatties, rainbow, skimmers, skimmer ettes, P. O. Q.’s, 18-foot restricted, 16- foot restricted ,and 21-foot restricted. The first race of the series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday to be followed by a barbecue on the beach adjacent to the clubhouse for visiting skippers and Coronado Yacht club members. On Sunday, the second race of the series will be held at 10 a.m. followed by the final and third race at 1 p.m., with the award of trophies set for 4:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. The course selected is an 8% mile triangular one starting in front of the clubhouse, and finishing at the outer barrels at entrance of Glorietta Bay. Paul Hathaway has been named gen eral chairman of the small boat regat ta, according to Commodore Weston, who named the following sub-commit tees: Launching of boats: George Ott, Harry Larson and Lloyd Anderson. Mooring: Col. H. H. Bissell, Comdr. Pat Frazier. Patrol of course: John Purcell, Bert Israel and Comdr. R. S. Davis. Coast Guard: T. C. Moffatt. Judges Boat: Stanley Byrne. Judges of course: Jim Woodworth, Richard Ott, Jack Wilbur, Lieut. Wal lace Short and Bert Israel. Race committee chairman: Frank Davenport. Long Beach Yacht club and chairman of the Small Boat division of the Southern California Yachting as sociation. Chief Timer: Staff Commodore D. M. Callis, of the Long Beach Yacht club.
