Haps, banners, mottoes, greetings hearty ami strong. everywhere welcome the grandest representative convention ever assembled in ilie state. Of the 015 delegates entitled to seals in the convention. nearly COO wen present at 1 o'clock Tuesday. when the convention was called to order by chairman Hassell of the committee. He made a brilliant address, after which Henry Yolk mar of Grant was elected temporary chairman, and L. N. Crill of Union was elected secretary A conimittc of 0 was appointed on crcden-liuls, and not a Contest reported, when the convention took a recess for one hour in order that the old soldiers could have a reunion. Captain E. S. Kellogg of Woonsocket was elected chairman of the meeting and Arthur Linn secretary. Kellogg is a one armed veteran and a good one. A roll call by counties was made and 141 old soldier delegates reported, wiih several counties to hear from. The great big wigwam trembled with the grand old “Marching Through Georgia.” It was a glorious meeting of the veterans and proved conclusively that the old soldier is with the peoples* party. No republican convention ever showed such a soldier spirit as this did. At various times during the day speeches were made by eminent orators and the utmost enthusiasm prevailed. There were no government officials present or men who though they owned the state. The convention is of the people and for the people. The Mayor of the city will surrenpcr the kevs of the city to the convention tonight after which Col. Price and John M. Pease will respond. Tomorrow. Wednesday, the convention will effect a permanent organization and gel down to businecs. The entire upper Jim river valley is in hearty accord with the glorious spirit of the jieoplc lu their strugle for justice and right. There is such a continious round of excitement and enthusiasm that it is impossible to do much wriilng. Occasionally the vast audience over 3.000 peop-pie. grow wild and up goes hats, coats and everthing. Victory is in the ait.People* P»rty Meeting. IThe peoples party of Lynn Township met in Worthing on the 18th of June. W. J. Henry was elected chairman. O. M. Iverson secretary, and M. Cowan treasurer. The name of the club will be the “Peoples party Club of Lynn township. Moved that we adopt the rosolut ions as a whole which have been prepared for the convention at Red field. Carried.
