Sailing of the Labrador Fleet. The schooner Mary M., Capt. Denis O'Neil, arrived yesterday afternoon from the ‘banks with the equivalent of 650 quintals of (dry) fish. This is the first arrival of the season. Messrs. Munn Co.,are to be congratulated on having secured the services of Captain O'Neil, who seems de termined to sustain the reputation he enjoys of being ‘‘ high-liner” of Conception Bay. Yesterday's change in the wind is the signal of departure for many of our Labrador fleet. By the end of the week all will have departed for the scene of their labors during the fishing season. ‘The supplies this year have been larger than usual; it is to be hoped that the voyage will be correspondingly large, and that a good price will be realized by our hardy toilets of the sea. One of our Harbor Grace planters,Captain John Hennessey, is this year extending his al ready large business. He has lately purchased three schooners; the Alice, Gauntlet and Thrasher. The Gauntlet is sixty-nine tons, the Thrasher eighty-four. The last mentioned schooner was purchased from the Harbor Grace Banking Company. She will be used in the prosecution of the bank fishery. The other two are intended for the Labrador. Captain Hen nessey has found it decidedly to his advantage to trade directly in the foreign markets. He made a beginning last year, and for the future he will charter his own vessels and import his own goods. Such enterprise and pluck certainly deserves every success. Without doubt, there are many breakers and quicksands in the path of the ‘‘ young exporter;” but energy, self- reliance, and good luck, are hard things to get over, and Captain Hennessey has all the three.
