■ mvww iiuiMiuntiuu*[From Buffalo Commercial Advertiser.]The Republicans of Pennsylvania are entering upon the campaign with an excellent spirit that ought to encourage their brethren in all theother States. Not only has their State ticket been mdeup from sound judgmfent, but the county and al! local horninations are placed npon the best men that could be selected for the respective offices. The natural result is an unusual.degree of satisfaction throughout the rank and iile of the party. Every man seems determined to make a good fight for victory.These remarks have been drawn out by a perusal of the proceedings of the Mercer County Republican Convention, held at Mercer, on ihe 7th inst. A full delegation was present, and, although a lively contest was witnessed over most of the nominations, the best of feeling prevailed all the way through. It took till three o’clock in the morning to complete the work before the Convention, almost every delegate remaining in his place till that late hour, when, says the Mercer IHpatch, .“with three rousing cheers for the ticket, and three more for Harfcranffc, Rawle and Victory, it adjourned sine die, without a jar or a jangle.”One of the nominations made—that of Prothonotory—possesses somespecial interest for our local readers. The choice fell upon Col. Horatio N. Warren of West Middlesex—an Erie county, New York boy. He went to Pennsylvania about twenty years ago, when but a lad, as a elerk for Mr Q. W. TitFt of this city, who had some, large and important business interests1 at that time in West Middlesex.! Finding the young man energetic, hoflest and capable, Mr. Tifftsoon promoted him to a more responsible position. Afterwards young Warren went into business for himself, and has continued to reside in West Middlesex, except three years of the rebellion, during whieh time he served in the array of the Union, having left Harrisburg. with the 142d Pa. Regiment of Volunteers as Cantaln of Co. A, and returned home at the close of the war, as Colonel of the same regiment, with only about two hundred of the thousand gallant men that filled the ranks at the outset.The name of Colonel Warren will add strength to a strong ticket. (By the way, nearly every man on it has been a Union soldier J The Republicans do not put rebels in front!) Mercer county may be set down for her more than usual handsome Republican majority.
