By AUDREY STUBBART 10 YEARS AGO TODAY Miss Frances Sincox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sincox, 1353 S. Delaware, was recently selected second vice president of the Missouri Division, Children of the Confederacy, at the 32nd annual convention in Mexico, Mo. She also serves the local Mary Custis Lee Chapter as president. The old office of county superin tendent of schools has been abolished by a bill signed into law by Gov. Warren E. Hearnes. George Winslow resigned the office in 1964 and the office has been vacant since that time. Marilyn Watson, Blue Springs High School senior, who is a delegate to Missouri Girls State held this week at the University of Missouri, was named Friday an alternate delegate to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. Marilyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Watson. Members of the Hickman Mills Christian Church will observe the 120th anniversary of its founding with special services Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Wesner and son, Thomas, of Independence will be among the participants. Mrs. Wesner is the great granddaughter of Major E. A. Hick man, founder of the mill, known as Hickman’s Mill, in 1852. 20 YEARS AGO TODAY Mrs. Winifred Doyle Biorck, 509 S. Noland, has had as her guest her cousin, Major Walter John Doyle, who has been in charge of the arsenal at Joliet M Ill. He is on his way to visit his great-grandfather’s grave in Bloomfield, Iowa. Wearing bathing suits of a by-gone era, four girls who are taking life saving instruction at Lake Doniphan display polka dot bloomer-type suits. The girls are Kay Pinson, Ilene Knudson, Barbie Thoman and Karen Elliott. Kent Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Mueller of 1643 E. 24 Highway, sailed this morning aboard the S.S. Stavangerfjord for Oslo, Norway. He is representing the Phi Delta Theta fraternity of the University of Kansas which was chosen to send an exchange student. Twenty members of the Oak Grove Garden Club were in Independence Monday to take a conducted tour of several local gardens. They met at the home of Mrs. T. A. Hudler, 2025 Harvard, in the afternoon.
