JohnZwahlen/loneerandPhilanthropist(rronSectioinlesat Age87 Years/FERRON^-John Zwahlen, 87,well-known Utah pioneer, diedat his home In Perron Friday.A resident of Bmery county since 1883, Mr. Zwahlen has been engaged in various agricultural pursuits, especially the raising of honey.He was born August 14. 1851, at Saanen, Bern, Switzerland, i son of John Jacob and Maria Magdellne Oehrli Zwahlen. On coming to America as an LJ3.S. convert in 1875. he settled In Richfield, where he married Anna Mary SchultheLss For many years he was active In settling central and southern Utah and assisted in the construction of the Mantl and St. George L, D. S. temples.In 1883 he moved to Castle Dale where he worked as a farmer until 1889, moving then to Ferron, where he had lived since, engaged in bee keeping. In 1896 he went on a mission to his . native Switzerland. Mr*. Zwahlen died in September. 1927.Mr. Zwahlen was one of Perron’s most loved citizens. He had no enemies. Everyone loved him because of the many kindnesses he had done. He lived for others. He visited In every homein town, taking flowers andvegetables from his own garden and cans of honey from his apiary. His cans of honey went to the primary childrens' hospital. to temple workers, to the widows and needy, and to his many friends. He spent hundreds of dollars In genealogical research and temple work.He was active in church work all his life and was a ward head teacher and high priest at the time of his death. When the church burned down a number of years ago. he bought song books and had them here in time for the next meeting. Mos' of his kind deeds were never heard of, and he sought no credit for them.He is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Mary Rehunln of Coeur d’Alene. Idaho; Joseph Zwahlen of Bountiful; Hyrum Zwahlen of Ferron; Fried rick Albert Zwahlen of Kenilworth; Samuel Henry Zwahlen of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Emma Barton. Ferron.Funeral services were conducted in Ferron L. D. S. ward chapel Sunday at 11:30 a.m. by Bishop Perry Snow. Canada, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Clara Seely of Orangeville, left for Salt Lake City after spending a week in Castle valley visiting old friends and landmarks, Mr. Sorensen was one of the early settlers here, and did much toward the upbuilding of the valley. He Later moved to Claresholm, Canada, where his home is at present.Sunday. Father's Day, a family reunion was held at Liberty park in Salt Lake City in his honor. Five of his seven daughters were present. The office has employed four student assistants: Frank Baxter, Colorado State Agricultural college, In the range section; Maurice Johnson, forestry section; Ray Burtenshaw, agronomy section: and Wayne Morgan, in the engineering section, all from the Utah State Agricultural college.These young men are employed for a ninety-day period, during the summer vacation, and are placed in the section which corresponds with their studies in college. A plate luncheon was served.A collision south of Bmery Sunday night resulted in about $50 damage to a car belonging to Bill Brown, of Kerdlworth, and damage of an Indeterminable extent to a boat and trailer which were being towed behind another car The occupants of the damaged car, Misses Fawn Anderson, Estella Ldrsen, Ora Anderson and Barbara Zwahlen, and Clive Tatton and Bill Brown, received no serious injuries when they drove over a raise and saw the approaching car which they successfully dodged but were unable to avoid colliding with the boat which was being towed behind the car. returning from FremontoWilliam E.
