Ten Classes of Small Boats Will Vie For First Place in Highly Competitive Field—Public Invited Glorietta Bay will again be the center of activity over the weekend when the Third Annual Invitational Small Boat Regatta will be staged by the Coronado Yacht Club. That the smaller boats should have a chance to com pete among themselves was the joint idea of Mr. Stephen Royce, managing director of Hotel del Coronado and Mr. Paul Hathaway of the Coronado Yacht Club three years ago. In that year the South ern California Yachting Associa tion held its annual regatta at San Diego and Coronado took over the program for the smaller boats. So successfully did it work out that the arrangement has been contin ued yearly and is the outstanding event of the summer for small craft. Last year eight classes competed and this season with two, added classes it is expected that there will be some 85 or 90 boats pres ent. The program consists of three races, one on Saturday and two on Sunday for all classes with a spe cial race for the Star boats on Saturday. Acceptances have been received from many of the north ern clubs ranging as far as Santa Monica. Rules of the North American Yachting Association for 1938 will govern all races with a few ex ceptions. The courses, which will be six and a half miles long will le in San Diego Bay, west of the City of Coronado. Contesting skip pers will receive their final in structions at the club house at 11 a.m. Saturday. Saturday Night del Coronado, which en enthusiastically into the ar ra, ts, provides a barbecue the. .beach ; club house on Saturday Tiedemann dishes out the beans in person and the occasion is looked forward to by those who have been here before. There will be ample accommodations for all visitors at Tent City. Paul Hathaway, who is again general chairman, expressed the opinion that this will be the best regatta of any year. Final arrange ments were completed at a meet ing last night of the general re gatta committee. The race com mittee includes Frank M. Daven port, chairman; D. M. Callis, lines man; Herb Riley, timer; Jack Leg gett, chief clerk; Mrs. Buelah Spurrel, clerk. A committee headed by officers of the club who will act as hosts to the visiting yachtsmen will be: Commodore Harry H.
