Lane.THE United States School Garden Army was organized by the Bureau of Education, under the Department of the Interior, with moneytransferred by the President of the United States from his war fund.The organization consists of one General Director, Mr. j. H. 7rancis and five Regional Directors, located in Washington. The Regional Directors are chosen from different parts of the country—Mr# Clarence M, Weed, or the Northeastern States; L, S. Ivins, Central Western States; Cyril A. Steb-ilns. Pacific States, and J. H. Francis, Director. The Regional Directors were hosen because of expert knowledge in gardening, and it is their duty to write ;ardcn leaflets to be followed by garden teachers in their sections. These leaflets, vith general suggestions on organization, are sent to the supervisors and garden eachers of the country whose names arc on the mailing list.is expected to perform his duties as such. When the long, hot days are on hs be reminded by his teacher and officers, if necessary, that his country a afford to have him be a slacker. For he is a real soldier in this great strugg world democracy. This army is alike for the rich and the poor, and the rid is encouraged to forego his vacation trip this summer and give his time efforts to his work as a garden soldier.rhe officers will aid the teacher in visiting and inspecting the gardens of soldiers, for most of them will be located at home.
