C. H.‘ In September, 1862, E. C. Harmon, the editor of the Troy Times, received aB callers at Ms office, two• iyoung men who had ' walked fourr • Kmiles from Casstown -to offer a poem for publication that had- been written by the younger of the two boys. That boy was T. C. Harbaugh, now far famed as a poet of merit and this first published poem1 was • written when he was 13 years old and is here republished for the first time and is taken from the September 11th, 1862, issue of the Troy Times.“A Song for the Times.”Come all ye sons of freedom And join our noble band;Come -help to whip the' labels,And drive them from our land.Kentucky, its again invadedCoupon No 1. Harbaugh still lives in Casstown respected by all who know hi-m.E. C. .Harmon, who still lives in Troy, -was really the pioneer in' newspaper work-in Miami county for his ■was the first newspaper to give local news in detail.Of T.-C. Harbaugh very little need be said.Mr. Harfoaugh’s reputation as a writer is not confined to Miami county and we herewith publish an article from the Dayton Journal referring to the merit of Mr. Harbaugh’s poems. This -Miami valley has a soldier-poet, whose verses deserve a wider field of recognition. Poets of far less merit, possessing far less of true inspiration have easily pushed themselves into fame. ‘’Tom’ Harbaugh, modest and unassuming as he is, contents himself with the contribution of. his genius to the Ephemeral columns of the daily newspaper, where •his work is only casually read and. soon forgotten. ■'We venture to say that Mr. Har-bau-gh’s poem entitled “The Bivouac of the Blue,” is not excelled by- any patriotic verse written in commemoration of the soldiers of the Union. It has sentiment, ryfchm, pathos. Tt belongs among the great tributes paid by comrade to comrade. It fairly sings with knowledge of nature and love of the heroic men.-rHas any poet, in any land, ever voiced more tenderly, more beautifully, the devotion of the living to the dead, than in these lines ?“Aye, strew them o’er with lillies fair with violet and rose,Bring wreaths of love and beauty to the spot where they repose; May gives her fragile blossoms to the valiant and true,And Glory stands, a sentinel, before the camps of Blue;9-4. unbleache Clean up at ...9-4 Bleached , fSale Price. •/'One lot of Su: Clean Up ......UnSpecial in Ladle price two for .•____Long sleeve La c cents.
