Harmon, the editor of the Troy Times, received as callers at Ms office, two• iyoung men who had walked fourr , Smiles from Casstown -to offer a poem for publication that had- been written by the younger of the two boys. That boy was T. C. Harbaugh, now far famed as a poet of-merit and this first published poem1 was • written when he was 13 years old and is here republihed for Che first time and is taken from the September 11th, 1862, issue of the Troy Times.“A Song for the Times,”Come all ye sons of freedom And join our noble band;Come -help to whip the' labels,And drive them from our land.✓Kentucky, its again invaded1)OtltCfSl. ililLl li-LHXisou.^ *-* i*-._ —tents himself with the contribution of. his genius to the Ephemeral -columns of the daily newspaper, where his work is only casually read and soon forgotten. ■..‘We venture to say that Mr. - Harbaugh’s poem entitled “The Bivouac of the Blue,” is not excelled by any patriotic verse written in commemoration of the soldiers of the Union. It has sentiment, ryth-m, pathos. Tt s belongs among the great tributes paid by comrade to comrade.
