It appears that during the progress of the dance s mv - re inadvertent-entlv advance1 t* e opinion that Judge Hargis ought tlt;» be hanged, whereupon one Dykes raised a point of order, when, a bullet from a Winchester laid him low and deprived him of all interest in the subsequentproceedings.The first shot was the signal for ageneral fusilade, and “for fifteen minutes revolvers and Winchesters cracked,” and when the smoke cleared away there were three men dead and six seriouslv wounded on the1 floor. Luckily, owing to the good markmanship of the gentlemen participating, none of the ladies present was hit; but it was an admittedly c 1 ose call for everybody. No arn*sts. Prejudiced outsider- may he unable to appreciate the fine points of personal honor and clan loyalty involved in these Kentucky vendettas; but if that State does n »t complete the good work it has begun in endeavoring to round up and bring to the gallows or the penitentiary the menprimarily answerable for thi- feudist savagery, there will continue to be a cloud on its claim to rank, as a civilized community.
