Frank Mrgow, the cn crgclic propricloi of tho Hlai Foundry, conceived the idea of supplying this need by moulding and casting a cannon at his establishment, entirely on his own responsibility. With Frank to plan, is to act, uud accordingly on Tuesday of this week, a large crowd of curious people gathered at Uio Foundry to witness the founding of the gun. The operation (icing a little beyond the usunl routine of the works, it attracted more than ordina ry interest and curiosity to see the outcome of Frank's experiment. Everything being in readiness, steam was let on the engine, tlie fan began to blow, the fires to roar, the furnace to glow, the workmen in the meantime, atrlppcd to the shirt, making preparations for the lime when their services would be in active demand. At the end of half an hour the furnace was lapped, and the molten iron began to flow into the ladles in which it wus conveyed to the storing kettles immediately over the mouth of the mould.— When these were filled to the brim with 1,500 to 2,000 pounds of liquid incUl, then cauic the decisive moment which would prove whether Frank had made a spoon or spoiled a horu. Four or five atalwait workmen with fuccs red ami streaming with pcrspirution by reflection from tlie seething mass of iron, grasping the handles of the kettles, and began to |Kiur the contents into the yuwning inlets of the mould. The kettle exhausted, the monster demanded more iron. Then the furnace was tapped ngiin, and gnvo down its glowing stream of molten metal which was liurridly carried to the mould, and poured down its insatiable throat.— By this means the mould wus at last filled, and the crowd departed. The next day. divested of its out side casing of sand, a |crfect cannon came from the mould, and Frank's anxiety was past. The gun is about 5 feet long and 18 inches in diameter at the breech. It will linvcaliorc of UJ Inches. It will bo taken to the Manufacturing Company's shops and bored out, after which we shall let it speak for itself, and for the energy, the skill, and public spirit of Frank Megow, its founder.Oar Wlathrip Correspondence*Ed. Bulletin—The lato nominations at Cincinnati arc tlie principal topic of interest here, as elsewhere. When people find subjects lacking for consideration, they usunlly fall back upon the weather, and tills only substituting politic# for weather—will, in the absence of local news, lmvc to be my plan. Before the Conveullon, the Iforald said that it was hard to tell who were most pleased, Democrats or Republicans, at Mr. Blaine's prospect of nomination. It is easy enough now to see who is not pleased, as nearly every Democrat seems to bewail the result, and loves to mingle ayui|ialhis-ing tears with those who favored Mr. Hluino. This may lie counted a good omen, for it Is poor policy In these matters to please our opponents. It is, of course, but lair to own that a majority of our party, in this quarter, preferred Mr. Blaine, but when the reasons for that preference are critically cousidured (os they surely would be bad he been nominated), it becomes daily more clear that a great mistake has been avoided. We had to admire Mr. Blaine’s tact and spirit in defending himself; but would our cutliusi-usm -having no stronger basis than that — stand by us through a long campaign? Mr. Blaine’s power as u debater would be of no avail as Presidcut, in fact, his usefulness in that direction would he socrl ficcd. Every fair man rejoices that Mr. Blaine proved that he curnc honestly io possession of the famous railroad bonds; .but were be the ninincc. today, the cry would ring through the land that of all Credit Mobile offenders lie is the chief. If speculating in securities, the value of which is influenced by legislation, is tbo oflensc claimed by the people, and tlie exposure of which ruined so many politicians, then Mr. Blaine would have that heavy load to carry through tho canvass. The best minds of the land demanded nn entire new deal in these matters, and the demand has been reflected. Because Gov. Hayes has not figured so prominently as others lu national nfluirs It docs not fol low that he is unlit for our highest ofllcc. Indeed, we incline to credit him the more for it. Some appear to think Uiut all the ability and integrity of our country is on parade in Washington. We will risk time to convince our Blaine friends that just the right thing has been done. Jn no ease can every man's favorite win. and we count the mau “ weak in the faith who inclines to bolt a party or convention simply because hit man fails to succeed j In this rucc we venture that our nag will show the best work ou the homo stretch. If there is a little less cheering at tho start, it by no means signifies defeat. One thing is clear, that if Mr. Tildcii is put on the course, our greenback frieuds will have a dose to swallow that Mr. Blaine's admirers never dreamed of. Then our turn to pity and weep with thoso that weep. will come.Tho late uelugc left this region not onlyJJuH* Thi Uon i sd Ct U#. a vlrtui ary U 111) IIS St 10. the fc Cor south tton -nine ( ihvnc twelv huiidi sixty-one b iy ( seven Ale and tlt; rods i Met q Sight ] tbvnc rods. lb.no thenc* of he seres, Tsu twoy leresl on »Hkiif-rbsns Omsd Isud-Iin-abtown.3SSshlpc Barba Whl for vs in the day of said d cationShertli*?nJ.VSOKA O rei Indcp. day of For tween For ta. nei son Ti For lion*: For T snd For tin- of Also on sou The be r«q millet-The and al open I l’lan or e of
