[ Thomas N. Wilwerding Sr.' Thomas N. Wilwerding Sr. died I June 19,1988, in Eureka. at 'the age of- 62. He was a native of St. Joseph,| Minn., and a resident of Eureka.Mr. and Mrs. Wilwerding were i married May 1, 1947, in Marion,Ohio. 'They moved, to .Lake City, Minn., in October 1947, to Albany, Ore., in October 1951, and finally to Eureka in July 1:952:. He had 'been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW.He had worked at welding crab pots in 1953 and at Mercer Fraser from 1955 to 1963. In 1963, he became self employed, in building crab gear and fishing boats. He was the area’s* pioneer in steel commercial fishing1 vessel construction with the first be-r ing the ‘Sally Kay,’ launched inr Humboldt Bay in July 1967'. He went* on to construct a total of nine steel| vessels.Mr. Wilwerding was general man-i ager of South Bay Marina from 1968: to 1973. He was instrumental in! .many innovations' and developments'' in commercial fishing industries onthe North Coast. He formed HECO, Inc., in. 1975 and. Fabcast, Inc., in Areata in 1980, where he was president of the corporation from 1:910 to the present. Fabcast specializes in , hydraulic deck machinery for thei fishing industry, import/export of metal castings and gear products.
