Hartman plays onlast six-girlCheryl Hartman, the state Class B Champion Nazareth Swiftettes’ much-honored forward, was one of 22 girls from over Texas chosen to play in the final six-player girl’s basketball game sanctioned bv the UIL.She was a member of the North team, which lost to the South in the Texas HighSchool Girls Coaches Association All-Star game at Abilene Saturday night, one of the few victories for the South in the classic’s 22-year history.Miss Hartman’s 14 pointsmade her the second highscorer in the 85-78 game,behind 21 for Merry Johnson, Canyon High School’s AAA all-st^r forward.Blfore {fie game the Swift-ette expressed her pride in being chosen to play in the six-girl contest, the last approved by the UIL before all high school teams switch next year to five-player basketball.cage classicT’m glad I'm in it and wish it w'asn't the last one,” Miss Hartman said. “I wish it wouldn't change. And not everybody will go to college.”Most of the girls echoed those opinions, some adding that they favor the old rules because more girls get to play.The Nazareth girl, who was a spring graduate from high school, plans to attend the University of Texas this fall and play basketball there.The North-South classic was decided in the third quarter, which began w'ith a 46-44 North lead that was whittled down as the South defense held the strong North forwards and capitalized on six North fouls to end the quarter 64-57 ahead.
