CHESHIRE—The annual June dinner of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the United Methodist Church in the Fireside Dining Room concluded activities for the current season. The president, Mrs. Richard Horstman, welcomed the group of 23 members and one guest. Mrs. George T. Warriner, vice president, gave the invocation. In the only item of business, officers for the 1970-71 year were elected as follows: President, Mrs. Burt Grew; vice president, Mrs. Robert Lewis; secretary, Mrs. Althea M. MacDonald; treasurer, Mrs. Natalie Hubbard; promotional secretary, Mrs. John Dorgan; secretary of spiritual life programs, Mrs. Wallace S. Griswold and nominating committee, Mrs. Harold E. Hunt, Mrs. Dorothy Brodeur and Mrs. Clarence R. Getman. Their names were presented by a nominating committee headed by Mrs. Felix Scholz assisted by Mrs. Griswold and Mrs. MacDonald. A program of games followed, directed by the dinner chairman, Mrs. Albert J. LaVigne, assisted by Mrs. Dorothy Brodeur and Mrs. John A. Weiss. Prizes were awarded. Corsages made by Mrs. Brodeur and Mrs. Weiss were at each place. Floral decorations were by Mrs. LaVigne. Activities will resume in September. Vacation school opens at Cheshire CHESHIRE—Vacation Bible School for Grades K through— began yesterday at the United Methodist Church. Any child not yet registered may attend class tomorrow at 9 a.m. or call Mrs. Donald Ashmall or Mrs. Kenneth Kleiner. Teachers representing the Baptist and Methodist churches are: Mrs. Marlee Newton, Mrs. Charlotte Haas, Mark St. Hilaiie, Linda Bratcher, Susan Mix, Peggy Zaleski, Cynthia Lamb, Loisann Leonard, Debbie Andrew, Janet Gill, Judy Phelps, Linda Beattie, Muriel Parker, Wendy Schwarzer, Jean Witto, Stephen Mix, David Schwarzer, Paula Phelps, Elaine Littlejohn, Mrs. Ruth Andrew, Mrs. Shirley Emerson and Mrs. Doris St. Hilaire. Articles are still being accepted for the auction sponsored by the Methodist Church and scheduled for Saturday, June 27. This event will commence at 10 a.m..at the Chicken Stop Restaurant on Route 8 and will be held in the pavilion. Auctioneer Fred Brooks will be in charge and refresh ments will be available. Anyone having articles that they wish to donate may call Norman Pandell or Mrs. Robert Emerson to have these donations picked up. Florida plans vacation school FLORIDA—The Vacation Bible School of the Florida Baptist Church will take place July 6-10 from 9.30 to 11.30 a.m. Kindergarten ages will be from 4 to 6 years, and the primary class from Grades 1 through 4. Mrs. Howard Rennell and Mrs. Stanley Brown will be kindergarten teachers and Mrs. Milton Poirot and Mrs. William Brown will teach the primary grades. Florida personals FLORIDA—Romain Hathaway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hathaway, is a patient in Children’s Hospital at Boston where he underwent knee surgery to remove pins last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Swift, Wesley Briggs and daughters, Cheryl and Sharon, of Monroe Rd., were Sunday af ternoon visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Briggs Jr. of Savoy. Peter Myal entered North Adams Hospital yesterday. Monroe personals MONROE — Mr. and Mrs. Deliverance Wheeler of South Readsboro and Mrs. Bertha Bowen of Readsboro visited their brother and son, Raymond Bowen, at North Adams Hospital last week. Mrs. Harry Bernard of North Adams visited her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tower, last week. Casals to Open Festival STANHOPE, N.J. (AP) — Pablo Casals, 98, will conduct a chamber orchestra to open the third season of the Waterloo Village Music Festival here on June 27. Alexander Schneider also will conduct. Piano soloist will be Mieczyslaw Hor szowski, longtime friend of Casals, who will play Beethoven's ‘Concerto No. 4.” Waterloo Village is a Revolutionary War restoration hamlet, dating back to the early 1700s when William Penn and family farmed the land.
