NELSONVILLE — Herman A. Kempton, 75, of 599 Poplar St., Nelsonville, a retired coal min e, was found dead Friday about 8:10 p.m. in the Hocking River, near the east city limits. Dr. L. A. Hamilton, acting Athens County coroner, ruled the death accidental drowning. The body was discovered by Walter McQuaid, Nelsonville Route 2, who was fishing with hi wife and Mike Bumgardner They called the police who re covered the body. Identification was made late Friday night Mrs. Kempton told police that sh had returned from an er rand at 1 p.m. Friday and her husband was not home then He had been in failing health for several years Born in Athens County, he was the son of the late John and Ann Kempton. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; two sons, John of Chauncey; and Ira of Bellville; seven daughters, Mrs. Iris Leech, Columbus; Mrs. Mary Wandling, Albany; Mrs. Hazel North, Baltimore; Mrs. Dorothy Lewis, Nelsonville; Mrs. Juanita Dehman, and Mrs. Cora Stanley, both of Chauncey; and Mrs. Inez Hart, New Marshfield, two brothers, Vern of Athens: and Fred of Jacksonville, a sister-in law, Mrs. Mary Conway, Jack sonville, 27 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren Services will be Monday, 1 p.m., at the Nelsonville Wesley an Church, the Rev. John Min sker officiating, Burial will be in Memory Gardens near Athens Friends may call at Johnson Funeral Home, Nelsonville, any time
