The city has engaged Sverdrup Ac Parcel, St Loins bridge engineers, for the work. Section 2 of the ordinance reads that the said Sverdrup 6c Parcel are to receive as compensation dx percent of the estimated cost of said bridge lo be paid out of any appropriations made tor the cost of con-*t met ion ot said budge; provided, however tliut, if lor any reason no appropriations for the* cost ol constructing said bridge are made or the city of Atchison finds it has no funds available for such an improvement then said contract shall be null and void and of no effect and entail no financial obligation to said Sverdrup V Parcel whatsoever.It is estimated that a structure of tins type at Atchison will cost approximately $500,000. The entire cost ol th ■ bridge, according to the present plans. wi;l be paid through funds obtained from the highway commissions ol Missouri and Kansas and from the federal government. The ledt*ral government funds would be received by Atchison through the newly enacted industrial revival-public works bill, which passed the senate yesterday. It is the plan that the two highway commissions will bear the expense of the bridge not to be borne by the government.
