Geo. S. Whitfield, of Glover, brought to this office Tuesday what appears to be an Indian pestle. He discovered it while working in a cut doing road work at a depth of about four feet. It was among other large stones that had to be blasted in order to be moved. The stone is about 9J inches long and 10J inches around the butt end, shaped like a druggist’s pestle. Such instruments were used by the Indians to rub out their meal, a rock being hollowed like a mortar for that purpose. The stone is now on display at The Times office.
