10 YEARS AGO June 71,1956 After almost two years of work and spec ulation, final approval of the Parker Square postal substation was announced by Republi can party spokesman John G. Tower to C. H. Parker and Postmaster Pat Hardage. Con struction will begin immediately with com pletion date set for sometime,in November. Several former pro baseballers in Wichita Falls have accepted invitations to the “‘Old timers Night : at Spudder Park, June 28. ,Ex ployers accepting are: Willard B. Hillin, Bing Miller, George Armstrong, Al Kalinec, Ken Faulkner, Tim Colligan, Eddie Cole, E. J. ,Winnie Wininger and Leon Marley. Mrs. T. B. Parnell opened her home for the first social event of the newly organized Optimisses Past Presidents Club. Mrs. Jim Hanks heads the new organization. 25 YEARS AGO _ Jane 21, 1941 The U.S. Navy Department has announced that the submarine 0-9, carrying two officers and 31 men in routine practice dives off the isle of Shoals near Portsmouth, N.H., has been located on the bottom of the ocean at a depth of 440 feet. The police chief points out that laying ino the municipal hotel is not sufficient punishment for the class of characters usually entertained in the jail. Mrs. J. A. Kemp entertained the young ladies of her Sunday school-class of the Presbyterian Church with a theatre party. The Billie Burke film ‘Peggy’ at the Majes tic was the attraction visited, with a supper course at Fell's after the show. Mrs. Annie Talley Hood entertained at Kemp Korth in honor of her niece Miss Kate Salmon Prince, 42 being the diversion of the morning.
