Rueful Rufus. From Thorsday’f Dally.Yesterday Miss Bertie Bulm appeared before ’Squire Hammer and swore out a state warrant charging Bufua Eramer with being the father of her unborn babe. Constable Midkiff brought the defendant into court. Kramer sought at once to compromise matters by offering to marry the girl. Miss Bulm declined to entertain such a gauzy proposition. When she appealed to Rufus a few dajs since he said he would get even with her in case he was arrested, by marrying her and leaving her at once, Having been forwarned Miss Bertie did not propose to be caught with such a thin bait. She told the gay deceiver that in case he gained her band in marriage he must give a good bond that he would live with her and properly support her. Rufus tried to furnish the bond but failed. The justice held him in the sutn of $500to appear for trial at 9 o'clock this morning. Being unable to give bail, Rufus hired Constable Midkiff to act as his body guard until the time of his preliminary hearing, that he might be spared the ignominy of spending a night in the county jail.
