The Trial of Pippin and Me (iiiinia.—The Crumpton O'asettr suys:—The caw: ol ilie Btate ugainst Janies McGinnis und Jus. Pippin, charged with the murder ot J. Kdwin Roberts, and removed from this county to Talbot rouuty for trial, was taken tip in the Circuit Court of that county, Judge Golds-borough presiding, on Wednesday week. The parties were indicted jointly, and the counsel for the defence moved to seiver. The motion was opposed by the prosecution, but the Court decided that justice to the accused required u severance, and ordered them severed. James McGinnis was then put upon trial for the murder of Mr. Roberts and pleaded “not guilty.” As far u» we can learn, the evidence, though mainly‘circumstantial, was very strong against the accused. The case was concluded on Monday lust and given to the jury, who returned a vt-jdicl o| “Guilty of murder in the second degree. The Judge has sentenced McGinnis to seventeen years in the penitentiary.
