CHESHIRE—Children’s Day was observed by the United Methodist Church during its 9 a.m. worship service Sunday, followed by the annual church family picnic at Windsor Lake, North Adams. The entire worship service was taken over by youth of the church who served as leaders for the various portions, with the younger children participating in songs and sketches. The pastor, the Rev. George T. Warriner, conducted a teacher recognition and dedication service. Church School Supt. Lynnce G. Lit tlejohn, teachers, Mrs. Littlejohn. Mrs. Thomas Mix, Mrs. Raymond Luscier and Mrs. Norman Haas were recognized and appreciation voiced by Mr. Warriner on behalf of the church for their loyal service of the past year. He also dedicated those who are to serve in the two week Vacation Bible School that opened yesterday in the United Methodist Church undergoing a spon sorship of UMC and the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Luscier is to serve as co director and Miss Pamela Jarck is to be a teacher. Russell Mix of the youth group gave the greeting, and call to worship, led the collect prayer and pronounced benediction, Miss Jarck had the silent prayer of confession, words of assurance and let the Lord’s Prayer. Stephen Mix presided for the Psalter reading and the offertory. Miss Elaine Littlejohn read the Scripture lesson. George Jarck led the Apostles Creed. Miss Linda Beattie gave the pastoral prayer. The children's story, by Mrs. Wallace S. Griswold, included a trib te to fathers in observance of Fat Day. Fathers of the participating yours and children each received a lapel marker inscribed **To the Best Father.” Lis Jarck, Jennifer Porter, Linda Lewis, Alan Lewis, Barbara Beattie and Christine Reed of Grades 1 and 2, taught by Mrs. Littlejohn and Mrs. Luscier sang ‘Jesus Loves me.”’ Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6, taught by Mrs. Mix and Mrs. Haas, presented an original sketch, prepared by Mrs. Mix and entitled “The Gospel according to Peanuts.’’ Miss Susan Mix of the youth group was reader. Participants were Kenneth Lewis, Nancy Lewis, George Jarck, Matthew Jarck, Joanne Reed, Julie Reed, Susan Luscier, Gail Porter, Kim Birmingham, Carolyn Beattie and Wendy Gould. Settings for the presentation were made by George Jarck, faculty dean at North Adams State College. Girls State CHESHIRE — Margaret Montleon of Cheshire attended Massachusetts Girls State at Bridgewater State College as guest of the American Legion Auxiliary. Upon her arrival at Girls State she was assigned to the Federal Party, and to the Town of Loyalty. She was appointed to the office of Chief of Police and im mediately assumed her duties. During the week spent at Girls State, 240 high school juniors were instructed by competent educators about govern ment on the local and state level, in order that they might be aware of the responsibilities of citizenship. Margaret Mentleon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Mentleon of Church St. Readsboro review READSBORO—There will be a pre school clinic at the Readsboro Central School tomorrow from 9 to 11.30 a.m. Dr. Stuart Porter will be the attending doctor.
