It looked like it was quite some distance away, he said, and he didn't realize that it was tearing up small buildings and uprooting trees on the nearby ,home farm now operated by ;his son, Emmett.Building Lifted ^Bob Gormley was looking out of a window at his home ■ northwest of Laurens when the storm hit there. For a moment, he said, there appeared ;to be no wind; then a hog jhouse some 50 feet long raised lt;off its foundation as though Jlifted by a vacuum, and collapsed. It was then 6:45 a.m., according to Gormely. !On a number of farms, ;brooder houses were demolish- 1 ed and many chickens killed. Among those losing chickens were Justin Ortner, Clair Ru* bel, Konrad Younggreen, Ralph Peterson and W. L. Brodersen.Valjean Cook's cattle shed was destroyed, barn moved, garage and other buildings twisted, and so many trees toppled that it was necessary to cut a path out to the road.Ed Wilcox, Vitus Terveer and several others had their homes damaged by falling trees, and in many cases windows were blown out by the force of the storm. The extremely heavy rain following the tornado caused some damage inside homes with broken windows and punctured roofs.Other LossesA number of other farms had damage to buildings, trees and crops.
