Col. R. J. Berry is off today to attend the funeral of his daughter’s mother -in- law, Mrs. Amelia Schan, wife of Michael Schan, who died Saturday night at the home of her son in-law, Charles W. Dean, Sixth and Illinois avenue, death being due to a stroke of paralysis sustained shortly before the death of Bart Dean, father of Charles W. Dean, in the same house eight weeks earlier to a d xy. At that time Mrs. Sciian’s condition wa9 regarded as hopeless. She was born in Germany January 16, 1840, her maiden name being Amelia Lachtenthaler. She came to America with her parents at the age of fourteen, located at Cincinnati, was married there, and moved with her hut* band, to Madison, Ind., whence they came to this city thirty years ago. Their golden wedding was celebratedlast year at ihe home of Mr. Dean.The surviving children are three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Charles W. Dean, Mrs. Frank W. Biedenbacft, Edward and Louis Schan, of Jeffersonville, and Mrs. George O’Neal, of St. Louis. There are thirteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
