CAMBRIDGE TRIBUNE, CAMBRIDGE, MARI?SHIPYARD INSPECTORVICTIM OF DROWNINGC. V. Burton, Government resident inspector for the Quartermaster Corps ot the U. S. Army, at the Cambridge Shipbuilders, Inc,, plant here, -was drowned when he fell from a motor boat in the Tred Avon River, about a mile from Oxford, Sunday afternoon.The boat from which Mr, Burton fell is the Shenandoah, which was in charge of Glasner Brooks, super intendent of the shipyard’s ways. The boat was proceeding under sail at the time, but the motor was need in the effort to stop the boat, after lines and life preservers had been thrown overboard.Although the wind blew the life preservers out of reach Mr. Burton grasped the end of the line that was thrown to him and appeared to have had a firm hold on it, but for some reason he released his grasp and sank out of sight.The accident occurred around 6 P. M. and Mrs. Burton bad joined the *party at Oxford, Jhaving driven from Cambridge. Mr! Burton had planned to drive back to Cambridge with her.The boat does not have a railing, and Mr. Broffe said that Mr. Burton had made some comment to the effect that a railing Would provide additional protection.There was a stiff breeze blowing at the time of the accident Major Coester, of the Quartermaster Corps, and several of the hoys, who were in the party, dived overboard immediately after the line was thrown out, but they were unable to locate Mr, Burton.Mr. and Mrs. Burton came here from Lewes, Del., about a year ago. They have three children. Jack Burton of the U. S. Air Corps: Mrs. Charles Lowe, of Lewes, Del., and C. V. Burton, Jr., of this city.
