Achille “Butch” Lenci, oft-convicted Yolo county bootlegger, has apparent y won a long fight to escape deporta tion. It was announced Friday that the United States Labor department has withdrawn charges against him, and that all proceedings toward deporting the Yolo county man to his native Italy will he dropped. The trouble started several months oo when Lenci went to Italy for a visit. When he returned, he was classi fied as an undesirable alr result of his prison record. The case was appealed to James Rolph, and scores of ‘citizens and oficers petitioned the governor in Henci's behalf. ‘The governor told that if he pardoned Lene portation charges woul be dropped Henci's pardon was ordered, but the altor department at once took up the sight and since that time Lenci's stay in this country has been a matter of uncertainty. With the withdrawal of federal charges, it is believed that Lenei will be permitted to remain here provided he keeps out of trouble.
