Sandy School Building Note to The Required Specifications. The Manatee County School Board met in regular session, June 10, 1915, with J. Gates, Chairman; F. H. Tuck er and J. ©. Brown members, and W. M. Rowlett secretary. Minutes of the last regular session, May 6, and Spec ial peasion, May 20, were read and on motion approved. Upon motion, Mr. E. T. Young was appointed to serve the unexpired term of A. F. Hull on the board of trustees of the Taylor school, No. 19, Mr. Hull having moved from the district. Messrs. Gates and Tucker reported that they visited and inspected the Sandy school building recently erected ; after making a careful inspection of the building they found that it had not been constructed in compliance with the contract and specifications; that the workmanship was poor and ‘the material used very inferior, there fore, they recommend that the bal ance due on the contract be withheld, and that the contractor be required to carry out in full his agreement. Upon motion, the report and recom mendations were accepted, and the Secretary was instructed to notify the contractor, M. A. Riley, and the board of trustees of the Sandy school of the decision of the school board. It was moved and passed that it is the purpose of the board to continue the Domestic Science Department in the High Schools of the county, pro vided, the Special Tax Districts of Sarasota, Palmetto and Manatee pay the expenses incidental to the main tenance of the same, in their respect ive schools. Resolutions from the Boards of Trade of Bradentown and Sarasota were taken up and read, and on mo tion, ordered filed. Messrs. Mason, Lamb, Whitehead and Dickie, committee representing school patrons and the Board of Trade of Palmetto, appeared before the board and presented a petition and resolutions relative to the appoint ment and salaries of teachers for the Palmetto High School, and vocational training in the same. After a full discussion of the requests of the com mittee, they were informed by the chairman that the board would com ply with their request so far as the school funds would permit. On motion the board then adjourned until Wednesday, 8:00 o'clock a. m. Wednesday morning, o'clock, the board reconvened, with all the mem bers present. On motion the selecting and assign ing of teachers for the incoming school term was taken up and the fol lowing appointments made: County High School. Principal, H. C. Gillespie. Getsinger. 3rd Assistant, Miss Annis Gilmore, was passed: Resolved, That inasmuch as the board has given ample notice to scheol trustees to make recom mendations for teachers for (here) acheos, and as many boards of trus tees have failed to do so, therefore the superintendent is hereby instruc ted to proceed to select and appoint teachers from the applications on file by the next session of the board. The Board then proceeded to audit the monthly reports of teachers and miscellaneous accounts and ordered warrants drawn to pay those approv al, as follows: Mrs. A. D. Sandefur, teacher, $ 15.00 B. D. To Whom It May Concern: This is to say that while I was Superintendent of Public Instruction of Hillsborough county, Prof. H. J. Kendall conducted a Normal and Teacher's Training School at Gil christ Institute and that his normal was endorsed and recognized by the Board of Public Instruction of Hills borough county and myself, as Super intendent. He had a large class in attendance, every member of which class passed a creditable examination, and, so far as we used them as teach ers, made efficient teachers in our schools. I personally regard Mr. Ken dall as a thoroughly competent, con scientious man in the conduct of this late of work and I never knew a class to make a more creditable show ing. Very truly, (Signed) W.
