TOWANDA — The Towanda Connection will again be a link to the fund-raising efforts of the Dave Smith Run this year. As part of the annual fund-raiser for the benefit of the Bradford County Unit of the American Cancer Society, a relay of Towanda connection “run ners” will start out at Rummerfield Cemetery on Friday afternoon, June 27, at the grave site of the late Gertrude Rinebold. These runners will then run equal distances in a relay to the Sayre High School Lockhart Street Bowl, a dis tance of 26 miles, arriving about 6:30 p.m. “We will take one victory lap around the track, joining others partic ipating in the 14th annual Dave Smith Run. These relay runners will all be running with the fond memories of two very special people whom they lost to cancer.” Towanda race connec tion organizer, Lyle Rockwell explains. Larry Rinebold died of melanoma cancer at age 56 on April 14, 1989. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid sports enthusiast who lived on Plank Road west of Towanda. He worked at the now wwe Sylvania plant. Z “Dorothy RI EBOLT TOBIN died of liver cancer at age 39 on Sept. 28, 1974. She enjoyed the outdoors and had numerous friends. She worked at the Towanda Corset Company and Sears Catalog store in Wysex. These runners’ thoughts will also be with Dean Allis of Warren Center, Rockwell reports. Dean is Rockwell’s brother-in-law, and was diagnosed with cancer in March of this year. He’s currently undergoing chemotherapy at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
