SUDDEN FLOODj(Continued from Page 1)The stream was three feet over the bridge at- Water Street and at New Street during the height of the flood and at the Cedar Street and Front Street bridges for the same stream it was running weli over a foot above the bridges.Mr. Adams said that the water rose inside of 20 minutes, and said the first gush of water was like an ocean wave. The stream went down to almost normal in about one hour.Roads around Halfville and on over to the Hammer Creek Church reveal the fact that the early morning rain was a cloudburst for roads stood two feet deep with mud washed from the fields. At some places two-way traffic lanes were shoveded through the mud.The drought here of nearly two j [ months was broken by Thursday night’s rain. Then on Friday night it drizzled and rained intermittently nearly ail night, weather men estimating that about two inches I of water fell.Some crop damage is reported in the Hammer Creek Church vicinity with the corn, tobacco, vegetable patches, etc., being either battered to the ground or washed out.
