Whitaker, chief of staff of the Armed Forces Maff College, at Norfolk, Va.Monroe NewsMr. and Mrs. Terry Vriezelaar and Marianne spent Memorial weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Leon Mills and Peggy at Longview, Texas.Peggy Mills returned home with them to spend a few weeks with her sisters family.Visitors Thursday afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Shaw were Mrs. Jerry Matthews of Jupiter, Florida, Ralph Jarnagin and Mrs. Eva Shewmaker of Des Moines.Shelley Rieka ba ugh recently graduated from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines. Those attending thegraduation exercises at the1st United Methodist Church in Des Moines from Monroe were her mother Mrs. Gladys Rickabaugh hergrandmother, Mrs, Cassie Rickabaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Zerley, Mr. and Mrs.Dennis Rickabaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Robinson, Mrs. Larry Dukema, Mr. and Mrs, D.B. Carter and children, also Ann Wilson and Doris Sloan.Mr. and Mrs. John Breed of Prairie City, Mr. and Mrs. Arie E. Breed, Steven and John of Ottumwa visited Sunday afternoon with their mother Mrs. Nellie Breed.Mr. and Mrs. Joe Har-pested and family, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Knoot and family, Newton, Gerrit Kuiken and Clovie, Melcher, Mrs. E.H, Meinders, C.J. Kuiken, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schippers enjoyed a picnic supper Memorial Day at the Red Rock Lake, Afterwards they went boating and water skiing.Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kabrick and Eddy of Des Moines, were Memorial Day visitors of Mrs. Gertie Van Engelenhoven, Jennie and Nellie.Our men in the service*iHORRIGAN ;U.S. Air Force Major Roger C, Horrigan, son -of Mrs. Charles F. Horrigan!of Pella, Iowa, has received the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and the fourth through ninth awards of the Air Medal.Major Horrigan was awarded the DFC for ex-traordinary aerial achievement as a C-123 Provider pilot on a low-level mission over a known enemy supply base in Darlac Province, Vietnam, July 20, 1970.When his aircraft received numerous hits in the airframe from intense enemy automatic weapons fire, he managed to maintain control of the C-123, remain on target and minimize the exposure of his crew and aircraft to continuing ground fire. His quick thinking and composure under fire were cited as instrumental to the successful recovery of the aircraft and crew.The major, who holds the aeronautical rating of senior pilot, received the Air Medals for numerous missions completed during his Southeast Asia tour of duty ending October 1970. He served with the 310th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Phan Rang AB, Vietnam.Major Horrigan’s wife, the former Margie E. Bailey, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Bailey, 1124 N. Jefferson, Enid, Okla.Major and Mrs. Horrigan have one child, Kevin, three years old.
