Kuiken, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schippers enjoyed a picnic supper Memorial Day at the Red Rock Lake, Afterwards they went boating and water skiing.Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Kabrick and Eddy of Des Moines, were Memorial Day visitors of Mrs. Gertie Van Engelenhoven, Jennie and Nellie.Our men in the service*iHORRIGAN ;U.S. Air Force Major Roger C, Horrigan, son -of Mrs. Charles F. Horrigan!of Pella, Iowa, has received the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and the fourth through ninth awards of the Air Medal.Major Horrigan was awarded the DFC for ex-traordinary aerial achievement as a C-123 Provider pilot on a low-level mission over a known enemy supply base in Darlac Province, Vietnam, July 20, 1970.When his aircraft received numerous hits in the airframe from intense enemy automatic weapons fire, he managed to maintain control of the C-123, remain on target and minimize the exposure of his crew and aircraft to continuing ground fire. His quick thinking and composure under fire were cited as instrumental to the successful recovery of the aircraft and crew.The major, who holds the aeronautical rating of senior pilot, received the Air Medals for numerous missions completed during his Southeast Asia tour of duty ending October 1970. He served with the 310th Tactical Airlift Squadron at Phan Rang AB, Vietnam.Major Horrigan’s wife, the former Margie E. Bailey, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Bailey, 1124 N. Jefferson, Enid, Okla.Major and Mrs. Horrigan have one child, Kevin, three years old.
