Forced Mrs. Lewis to Prepare Dinner for Him. John Johnson, a darkey, who gave his home as Annapolis, was arrested Tuesday at the Cumberland Valey Railroad station, at Wilfelmaport... charged with insulting Mrs. George Lewis, wife of the assistant agent at that place. He was sentenced by Justice Hawken of Williamsport, to three months in the House of Correc tion. About 3.30 in the afternoon he went to the Lewis home and asked Mrs. Lewis for something to eat. While she was in the act of getting him several pieces of bread and cold mea, Johnson discovered that there was no man about the p.ace, only the woman, and her two small childern being in the house. He walked into the gar den and pulled a number of onions and radishes and several heads oft lettuce. Returning to the house he ordered Mrs. Lewis to prepare a regu lar dinner for him, and cut up the delicacies he had pulled. Mrs. Lewis thoroughly frightened ordered the man to leave. He became insolent, grabbed her by the arm and forced her to cut up the onions and radishes.* At first Mrs. Lewis be came almost hysterical, but keeping her head she parleyed with the man while he paraded around the kitchen and garden, and at an opportune mo ment telephoned to the Williamsport telephone exchange for assistance. The negro suspected nothing and con tinued to make himself at home, or dering the woman and children about at his pleasure. The officers quickly arrived, and catching sight of them the negtro started to run, but was easily cap tured and nippers placed upon him. The prisoner was rapidly driven to Justice Hawkens's office, and securely gwabled for fear of a crowd congre gating. The news spread quickly and for a time great excitement prevailed, gradually subsiding, however, after the man’s trial took place and his sen tence became known. The prisoner is the negro who was picked up at the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad station Saturday night by Policeman Williams with three or four empty whiskey bottles about him. When sentenced Johnson an nounced that he knew Superintendent Moore of the “Cut” very well and would file a request that he be per mitted to feed and take care of the institution’s swine.
