CIVIL WAR IN’ VICTORIA PARK.On Monday last Joseph Clayton, 33, assistant editor of the “New Age,” was at North London Police-court remanded on bail charged with assaulting JKdward Jackson and with behaving in a manner calculated to cause a breach of the peace.On Sunday morning at a South African conciliation meeting in Victoria Paik the platform was stormed and broken up. The defendant was conducted out of the park by the County Council officials, and it was alleged that he broke away from the constable and struck Jackson.• For some hours Jackson’s life was deapared of, but it was reported that he was now out of danger.From the park Mr. Clayton was conducted to a tramcar, and there took off his hat to the people. This enraged some of them, and the tramcar was stormed. He wa,s ejected from the car, and Detective Crutehett finding that Jackson was unconscious took accused into oustody.The bail for £25 was given by Mr. Jas. Branch,L.C.C.On Wednesday Mr. W. M. Thompsou, Barrister, addressed Mr. Chapman at North London Police-court, on the above case. He said the injured man is even worse than before, and asked for anotherremand*Mr. Harold Rylett, proprietor and editor of the “New Age,” on which the prisoner is assistant editor, offered himself as bail. He objected to take tbe oath, as being contrary to his religious belief; and was allowed to subscribe to the usual affirmation. He was accepted as bail in £25 for the reappearance of the prisoner.Mr. Thompson: Our defence is that whoever hit the man it waa sot my client.
