Nine Persons Poisoned.Last week while several men from Ratesville, including Frank Bedunnak and Mr. Scherer, were working at the Hillenbrand saw-mill, near Oak Forest, the two men mentioned above and several others were to all appearances poisoned. They took a spell of vomiting and painful griping of the stomach. indicating arsenical poison. The source of poison was at first thought to be traced to the eating of cherries. The cherry trees were the property of Mr. Cook, of Oak Forest, and it was said he had powdered or sprayed the trees with Paris green in order to kill the birds or insects that were destroying them. The parties poisoned had eaten of the cherries and the conclusion was that in eating the cherries they had eaten n-ore or less of the Paris green.A physician, however, who is familiar with the case and who understands the matter pretty thoroughly, expresses the opinion that the Paris green had nothing to do with the poisoning. He attributes the sickness to ptomaines, which results from the drinking of stale water, bringing about the decomposition of food in the stomach, something that often happens without the use of Paris green or any other known poison. While some of the cases are quite serious it is not apprehended that any fatalities will result.
