XI.Green, the only colored man ever admittedto the signal service. At the time of hisenlistment two years or more ago the case ,occasioned considerable comment. Gen. |Huzen strenuously opposed bis admittanceto the service on the ground that ho would ;not prove a satisfactory man, but he was agraduate ot ft New York college, was highly recommended and successfully paswed the necessury examination.
