MADISON (UP) — Universi ty of Wisconsin student Bonita Malicsi will take a master of science degree home soon to the Philippines and her 11 chil dren and seven wards. She was one of 2,300 Univer sity of Wisconsin seniors to get degrees today. Mrs. Malicsi left Manila last August with 17 other teachers from the Philippines to study in this country under scholar ships supported by the Ameri can and Philippine govern ments. “I hated to leave the chil dren, but it was such a great honor to be selected from among 100,000 teachers,’’ she said. ‘‘Before I left home, I wrote out marketing lists, sample menus and other direc tions to guide my husband and our three servants.” MRS. MALICSI’S husband is a physician and government quarantine officer, Dr. Alberto Malicsi. Besides 11 children, Mrs. Malicsi takes care of sev en nieces and nephews in her home. Mrs. Maliesi taught courses in child care and teaching cur ricula in the Philippines. She studied curriculum develop ments at Wisconsin. ‘‘My father was a pioneer in the teaching profession who started at a salary of three dollars a month,” she said, ‘‘I am one of a family of 16 and we all had the opportunity to go to college. ’ Mrs. Maliesi said there is a “tremendous over supply of about 22,000 teachers each year’ in the Philippines, and an oversupply of doctors and lawyers. “Students who have seen their parents work so hard on the land without mechanical help pick a white collar occu pation so they won't have to work so hard,” she said. Before going home, Mrs. Ma liesi will go to Ohio State Uni versity’s summer science workshop, spend a week in Washington reporting on her studies in the U. S., and study laboratory schools on the West Coast for several weeks.
