PROGRAM WAS UNUSUALLY GOODBetween $12,000 and $15,-00^ Carried Away From Lancaster by Sells-Floto. Willard and Gotch Appear in After Performances.Approximately 7,000 people saw last night's performance of the Sells-Ploto Circus on the Lancaster Fairgrounds and almost as large a. crowd witnessed the afternoon's entertainment. Several thousand people remained to see the “Athletic Tournament and.it is estimated the Circus carried away between $12,000 and $15,000 of Lancaster money. The running expenses are in the neighborhood of $5500 per day so that the Sells-Floto people made no mistake in placing Lancaster on their 1910 tour. The circus was a most creditable production and by many it was announced the best that has ever Visited this city. Some of the stunts were new while only the most popular of the older acts' that always take*well with the crowd were of-feifcrd on the program. There were nojdull moments, a score or more of clpwns furnishing amusement at times when changes of apparatus were being made in the three rings. The menagerie was above the ordinary and attracted no little attention both in the afternoon and even-ng.Jesse Willard, champion pugilist and Frank Gotch, champion heavyweight wrestler were both on hand as advertised and were formerly introduced at the regular performances with Jesse riding around the ring in cow-boy attire on a Western pony. In the after show or concert as it is popularly called Willard’s three rounds sparring match with Walter 'Monahan his trainer, was a farce. Raymond Carpenter went on the mat for eight minutes and 20 seconds with Goteh and while he had no chance ’whatever with the big fellow he showed that he is game enough to mix things with the greatest wrestler the world has known. There are comparatively few wrestlers who can even bo^st of the honor of having met Gotch so that Ray has reason to feel proud of the . distinction. From Lanfaster the circus departed for Goshoeton the first section leaving at 2:09 and the second sec-:20 o’clock this morning.tion at ___ ________ _____ __________The trains were scheduled to reach their destination between 7 and 8 o’clock tie jump to Coshocton being about seventy-five miles.
