WILL BE FOR THE BALTIMORE AND OHIO ORDINANCE TO A MAN, Good Speeches Made by Messrs. Burgee, Gates, Smith, Cooper and Marshall. The colored voters of the city held a largely attended meeting in Belvidere Hall Friday evening for the purpose of discussing the Baltimore and Ohio Ordi nance. The following officers presided: President, John W. Howard, Vice-Presi dents, Robert Trent, John Watson, John Cornish, David Gates, Steward McNeal, Simon Woods, Wesley Burns, Alex Washington, James Harper, Henry Gates, Beecher Bates, Addison Miller, Isaac Jones, Fulton Haris, Robert Sniveley, Edward Fisher and 8S. M. Bur pee, secretary. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Howard, who introduced the speakers in the following order: Capt. Frederick Burgee, Edward Gates, Joseph H. Smith, Wm. Cooper, Emanuel Marshal. All of these gentlemen made excellent speeches in favor of the ordinance. The four first speakers addressed them selves to showing the benefit the ordi nance would be to the colored people of the city. Mr. Marshall took the ground that the ordinance would benefit the city of Cum berland, and so far as the colored people of the city are concerned he was satisfied they were all right, stating that they would not be voting for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, but for the city of Cumberland. All the speeches were well timed, topi cal and to the point. At the close of the meeting three cheers were given for the ordinance. The music for the occasion was fur nished by the Western Maryland Band.
