By CURT NETTING A Plainsman Sports Writer When one sees Aberdeen’s Ron Droog on his way to another victory in the late model main event, one words pops into your mind — ‘‘un beatable.'’ Droog was in fine form again Sunday night as he coasted to yet another main event victory at SFS. He took over the lead on the second lap and left the real battle for second place. What is it that makes Droog so much faster than his competitors? “I honestly don’t know,” said Droog, amid numerous young ad mirers and autograph seekers after the races. ‘We set the car up how we thought was right at the beginning of the year and we haven't turned a screw to change it.’ Randy Shilling of Gettysburg won the battle for second place as he nosed out Bruce’s Roger Saathoff and Harrold’s Sheldon Reding. Huron’s Robbin Smidt has been riding a streak of good luck the last two weeks as he again took the main event in the sportsman division. Smidt also won the trophy dash and would have had the clean sweep, but he was beaten by inches in his heat race by Ron Muth of Wolsey. And Miller’s Mike Hammill finally got what he’s been trying for all year long, a main event victory at SFS. Hammill has won his share of heats and trophy clashes, but the main event had eluded him. It appeared that Sunday night could be the night that Droog would be dethroned as Reding and Aber deen’s Al Nordstrom took heat wins and Reding took the trophy dash, his first of the season. But Droog quickly established his plan of action in the main event — get in front and don't let up. Smith, who was plagued with some early season problems, seems to have all the bugs worked out of his car as he took the lead early and held of determined efforts by Kent Wilson of Miller to chalk up his second win in as many weeks. Hammill took his main event win virtually untouched as he gained control early and was never headed. Sportsman heat winners included Muth, Jerry Mikel of Madison and Dave Marlow of Redfield, while Rick Hovde of Willow Lake and and Steve Harvey of Huron won the street stock heats. Hovde also won the trophy clash. Consolation winners were Sonny Isburg of Lower Brule in sportsman and Hammill in street stock.
