SMITHVILLE, June 13.—(Spl) Bowen Sims, commander of VFW Post 1309 here, has announced that the VFW has leased the tavern building on the LaGrange Road, for a three-day Fourth of July cele bration beginning July 2. The place, formerly known as the Corral, has been unoccupied for the past several months and is located just opposite the Lakeview swimming pool. The main event of the celebration will be a chicken barbecue July 4 in connection with the water carnival being sponsored by the Smithville Lions Club. Simms also stated the VFW is discussing plans with the Yerger Hill estate, for leasing the property for an extended length to be known as the VFW’s temporary home until a permanent quarters can be con structed.
